Labs
- RH124 Ch 1: First Day on a RHEL Server — You have just joined the WebAsha infrastructure team. Before touching anything, record the basic facts about servera and its neighbour serverb for the team wiki.
- RH124 Ch 2: Shell Expansion and Redirection — The WebAsha reporting desk wants a few quick files prepared from the shell. Use brace expansion, redirection and pipes instead of doing it by hand. Work as `student`.
- RH124 Ch 3: Organise a Messy Home Directory — A trainer left `~/downloads` full of mixed files. Tidy student's home directory, build the project skeleton and set up the links the team asked for.
- RH124 Ch 4: Find Answers in man Pages and Docs — In the exam there is no internet, only the documentation on the system. Practise finding answers in man pages and `/usr/share/doc`, and write each answer into `~/answers`.
- RH124 Ch 5: Edit Configuration Files — The WebAsha portal's config file in `~/config/app.conf` is out of date, and the team wants a login banner draft. Use vim (or sed) to make the edits, and set up student's shell environment.
- RH124 Ch 6: Manage Local Users and Groups — The new finance team starts on Monday. Create their accounts and group on servera, set the password policy, and give the team lead limited admin rights.
- RH124 Ch 7: Shared Directories and Permissions — Marketing needs a shared folder where everything new belongs to the team, a drop box anyone can use safely, and a private budget file. Users `meera` (marketing) and `rohan` (not marketing) already exist.
- RH124 Ch 7: Diagnose Permission Problems — The audit team reports "Permission denied" errors. User `kiran` (group `audit`) cannot read the Q3 report, nobody can run the backup check script, and student's new files are too open. Fix each problem with the least access needed.
- RH124 Ch 8: Tame Runaway Processes — Users say servera is crawling. Something is eating the CPU, a backup job is hogging priority, and an intern left processes running after leaving. Investigate with `top`/`ps` and fix it.
- RH124 Ch 9: Manage systemd Services — servera is becoming the WebAsha intranet web server. Bring up the web service for good, switch off what it does not need, and make sure it boots to a text console.
- RH124 Ch 10: Key-based SSH Logins — The WebAsha automation scripts must log in to serverb without passwords. Set up SSH keys for `student` and `root`, and give student a short alias for serverb.
- RH124 Ch 10: Harden the SSH Server — Security audit findings for servera: root can log in over SSH with a password, idle sessions never time out, and passwords are accepted at all. Fix the SSH server configuration — but set up student's key first so you do not lock the team out.
- RH124 Ch 11: Logs, the Journal and Time Sync — The payroll API on servera failed overnight and the journal was lost at reboot. Find the error, make the journal survive reboots, send the app logs to their own file, and fix the clock settings.
- RH124 Ch 12: Configure IPv4 and IPv6 with nmcli — servera is getting an extra service address and joining the IPv6 test network. Update the `eth1` connection profile with nmcli so the changes are live now and survive reboots. Do not touch `eth0`, and keep the existing `172.25.250.10/24` address.
- RH124 Ch 12: Host Name and Name Resolution — WebAsha is renaming its lab servers into the `webasha.lab` domain. Give servera its new name and make sure it can find the file server by name.
- RH124 Ch 13: Back Up and Copy Files Between Servers — Before a migration, back up the configuration of servera, archive the website project, unpack the new release, and copy the backups to serverb over SSH (student's password on serverb is `student`).
- RH124 Ch 14: RPM Repositories and dnf — WebAsha publishes its in-house tools in a private RPM repository, available on servera at `file:///opt/webasha-repo`. Configure the repository, install the new tools and clean out the legacy package.
- RH124 Ch 14: Flatpak Remotes and Apps — RHEL 10 desktops at WebAsha get their apps as Flatpaks. The new internal Flatpak repository lives at `file:///opt/webasha-flatpak` (unsigned, test only). Add it system-wide, install the Notes app, and retire the old remote and its app.
- RH124 Ch 15: Mount and Search File Systems — A disk holding last year's archive (`/dev/vdd`) has been attached to servera, and a former employee `olduser` left files all over the system. Mount the archive and track down the files.
- RH124 Ch 16: Troubleshoot and Collect Support Data — The WebAsha monitoring agent on servera is down and Red Hat support has asked for system details. Diagnose the failure, fix it, and collect an sos report for the support case.
- RH124 Part 1 Review: Timed Practice — Exam-style practice: a new DevOps team joins WebAsha. Complete all tasks on servera within 45 minutes, without hints if you can. Everything must survive a reboot.
